Haitian-style peanut butter
Manba” is a Haitian peanut butter often prepared at home using simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 cups raw peanuts, shelled and skinless, if desired
- 1 to 2 tablespoons of neutral-tasting oil, such as peanut oil or vegetable oil
- Salt to taste, optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread the raw peanuts in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Roast the pistachios in the preheated oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
- Remove the peanuts from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Place the roasted peanuts in a grinder or food processor or blender. Mix them at high speed. Initially, they will form a powder, then clump together and finally, the oils will be released, giving the mixture a smoother consistency. You may need to stop and scrape the sides of the food processor or blender from time to time. If the mixture seems too dry or too thick, gradually add 1 to 2 tablespoons of neutral-tasting oil while mixing. This will help achieve a smoother, creamier texture.
- Adjust the amount of oil according to your desired consistency. If desired, add salt to taste while mixing. Salt is optional and can be omitted if you prefer unsalted peanut butter.
- Continue mixing until you achieve the desired softness and consistency of your peanut butter. This may take several minutes, depending on your equipment and preferences.
- Once the peanut butter is smooth and creamy, transfer it to a clean jar or airtight container.
